Join the Celebration at James Madison University’s ‘Halftime on the Quad’: Unwind and Connect at the Semester’s Midpoint!

HARRISONBURG, Va. – As midterm exams loom at James Madison University, students got a refreshing break at the Halftime on the Quad event. This mid-semester gathering turned the campus into a lively hub where students could play games, enjoy music, and receive uplifting messages from leaders, including student representative Sydney Stafford.

“Halftime on the Quad is a chance to connect with others and remember to take breaks,” Stafford shared. The event offered free ice cream, hot dogs, and donuts, much to everyone’s delight.

With the JMU Cheer Team leading the way and Tim Miller, the Vice President for Student Affairs, rallying students, the atmosphere was full of energy. Miller emphasized the importance of student health and wellness. “This event is about JMU. It highlights our commitment to the well-being of our students,” he said.

Miller also had encouraging advice for students of all years. “You’re more than your grades. You are a whole person,” he said. “Focus on the great things happening inside and outside of class. Remember, whether your grades are high or low, they don’t define you.”

Recent studies show that taking breaks during intense study periods can boost retention and reduce stress. According to a survey by the American Psychological Association, about 61% of students reported feeling overwhelmed during exam seasons. Events like Halftime on the Quad provide not just enjoyment, but also a reminder to prioritize mental health.

As students continue their academic journeys, moments of connection and fun become essential for overall well-being. Balancing study and self-care is key to navigating the pressures of university life.
