Join the Conversation: D11 Board of Education Invites You to Shape the New Employee Handbook at Upcoming Listening Sessions!

COLORADO SPRINGS — The Colorado Springs School District 11 (D11) Board of Education is planning to hold four listening sessions. These sessions will help them create a new Employee Handbook.

This move comes after the board chose to end its agreement with the Colorado Springs Education Association (CSEA) in December 2024. This change means that D11 is stepping away from the traditional union model.

To support this transition, the district has set up the ‘Employee Engagement Group.’ This group will meet monthly to discuss and shape the new handbook that will replace the old agreement.

“We’re eager to hear from the community,” said Parth Melpakam, board president. “Two board members will attend every session to listen to concerns and answer questions. We want to gather ideas and feedback on how to improve D11 schools and enhance student learning.”

The listening sessions will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, February 4 at Mitchell High School, library
  • Monday, February 10 at Palmer High School, lower library
  • Monday, February 24 at Coronado High School, library
  • Thursday, March 6 at Doherty High School, location TBD

Additionally, the D11 board held a work session on January 15 to discuss the upcoming handbook.
