Stay Safe On-Demand: Hire Armed Bodyguards Instantly with ‘Uber for Bodyguards’

By Ben Barry

A new app called Protector has been released, and it lets you hire armed security guards for protection anywhere you go. It’s being referred to as the “Uber for bodyguards.” This means that you can easily connect with experienced professionals, including veterans from the military, SWAT, and police forces.

Using the app requires an annual membership of $129. Once you’re a member, you can book security services starting at $200 per hour, with a minimum booking of five hours.

The app’s popularity appears to be climbing, especially in light of increased fears surrounding safety, particularly after the tragic murder of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, last year.

Among the security professionals available through the app is Jim Zourek, a 57-year-old veteran who served 12 years in the Marine Corps and spent 27 years with the Los Angeles Police Department before retiring. He notes that crime is on the rise and emphasizes that current law enforcement tends to respond to incidents after they occur. With his role at Protector, he aims to offer proactive protection rather than reactive response.

“We are there on the scene to offer protection, which is something police do not do,” Jim explained. His mission with Protector is to extend a sense of safety to those who may feel vulnerable.

The app was created to complement law enforcement efforts, filling gaps where police can’t always be present. According to Nick Sarath, the CEO and founder of Protector, the app is about empowering people to take charge of their safety and the safety of their loved ones.

Protector exclusively employs veterans and current law enforcement officers. Jim emphasizes the importance of the background of the protectors, stating that their extensive experience gives clients peace of mind. Whether escorting someone to a meeting or simply going out for dinner, the assurance that comes with having trained professionals nearby is key.

Since its launch on February 17, 2025, the app is currently available only in Los Angeles and New York City, catering to those who need high-level security in urban environments.
