Join the Fight Against Hunger: Support Aberdeen Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry Today!

In Aberdeen, Mississippi, the local Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry is facing tough times. When Leslie Hitchcock returned to her hometown, she wanted to contribute. Volunteering quickly turned into running the pantry, a place committed to fighting food insecurity.

“I love helping people. It’s a serious issue here,” Leslie shared. Her passion doesn’t come without challenges. A recent report from Feeding America shows many food banks, including hers, are seeing rising demand. This issue has deepened since cuts to federal funding were announced earlier this year, impacting organizations like Mid-South Food Bank.

Hitchcock explained, “We used to get plenty of food, but now it’s been six months since the cuts. We’re waiting on some news during a meeting this Tuesday, but it’s been hard.”

In response, the community has rallied together for a fundraiser. They organized a 3K run, walk, and bike ride to help raise money for the pantry. Jeremy Belle, an Alderman of Aberdeen, emphasized the importance of the food bank. “It’s a cornerstone for our community, and we want to keep it strong,” he said.

Toni Reece from the Aberdeen Cycling Club noted the community spirit, saying, “We always rise to the occasion when there’s a need.” This collaboration shows how the residents support each other in tough times.

Melissa Moore, the city clerk, also expressed her commitment. “I know how important Loaves and Fishes is for many people here,” she said. “I don’t mind waking up early for a good cause.”

Despite challenges, the community’s connection remains strong. Everyone is working together to ensure that their friends and neighbors have enough to eat. As we look ahead, it’s heartening to see communities come together, proving that even in hard times, togetherness shines a light of hope.
