Join the Fight for Climate Justice: COP30 Highlights State’s Commitment to Sustainability

On Monday, Vice Governor Hana Ghassan joined the 1st Congress on Climate Justice and Sustainability in Pará. This event, organized by the Public Ministry of the State of Pará, set the stage for discussions leading up to the upcoming United Nations Climate Conference, COP 30.

The focus was on the Amazon and Brazil’s watersheds, both vital for global climate stability. Ghassan shared the state’s enthusiasm about hosting COP 30, highlighting the government’s two-year preparation for the event. She said, "This gathering is crucial. We have prioritized environmental preservation and sustainable development since the start of our administration."

COP 30 is more than just a conference; it promises to leave a lasting impact. The Vice Governor noted the expected benefits, such as improved infrastructure and job opportunities through initiatives like the Capacita COP30 program. These preparations aim to help the local population before, during, and after the conference.

The event attracted not just officials but also entrepreneurs and students. Lucas Viana, a law student, said attending the congress offered him a chance for personal and professional growth, especially with COP 30 approaching in Belém. “The more we talk about sustainability, the better it is for everyone,” he remarked.

Throughout the day, participants shared thoughts on today’s environmental challenges. Alexandre Tourinho, the Attorney General of Justice, emphasized the importance of engaging with society. "COP 30 might be temporary, but its effects will last. We must seize these opportunities for the benefit of our people," he stated.

Additionally, the Vice Governor announced a significant call for volunteers. Starting May 29, 2025, Pará will look for around 4,000 volunteers to assist with essential functions during COP 30. Those interested can apply online using a form available through the state’s official channels.
