Broward HealthPoint and the City of Lauderdale Lakes have teamed up to launch "Stay Healthy Together," a community health initiative aimed at providing better access to primary and preventive care in Broward County. This program is a significant step in making healthcare more accessible for everyone in the area.
The kickoff event happened on March 22 at Vincent Torres Park. Local leaders and organizations gathered to offer resources and healthcare services to the community. With activities like health workshops, preventative screenings, face painting, and games for kids, the event created a lively atmosphere while promoting health.
Melida Akiti, a corporate executive with Broward Health, highlighted the initiative’s goal: “We’re meeting people where they are, right here in their own neighborhoods, making access to care easier and more convenient.” The initiative is just the start of a larger plan to bring healthcare directly into communities.
Broward Health aims to uplift healthcare access across the county. Part of this mission includes the Better Together program, launched earlier this year in collaboration with Memorial Healthcare System. This program focuses on delivering primary and maternity care right within the communities.
For the next eight weeks, mobile health units will be regularly stationed at the park. After that, they’ll continue to visit weekly for the next two years, underscoring a long-term commitment to community health. These units will also travel to various locations in the county, making healthcare truly nearby for all.

Recent surveys show that nearly 30% of individuals in Broward County have faced difficulties accessing healthcare services. Initiatives like "Stay Healthy Together" aim to address this gap, leveraging mobile units to meet healthcare challenges head-on.
