Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items. This initiative aims to unite the community under the message of “May Day 2025,” which promotes housing, healthcare, fair wages, and safety for every family, regardless of race or immigration status.

The plaza has been a site of activism, previously hosting a protest against the Trump administration on April 5, highlighting the ongoing engagement of local citizens in social justice issues.

Recent surveys indicate that food insecurity remains a pressing issue in many communities. In the U.S., nearly 10% of households faced food insecurity in 2022, a number that underscores the importance of initiatives like the food drive.

Donating food not only supports those in need but also fosters community spirit. Historically, May Day events have been a platform for labor rights and social justice. This year, participants are encouraged not just to donate but also to voice their hopes for a more equitable future.
