Recently, the Cardinals faced off against West Liberty in a heated rivalry match dubbed “The Battle for Wheeling.” The first game didn’t go their way, ending in an 8-0 loss. The team struggled at the plate, managing only two hits. Although the bullpen showed resilience, it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

In contrast, the second game was a wild offensive showdown. The Cardinals put up a fight but ultimately lost 19-7, despite a thrilling attempt to claw back into the game after trailing 5-3 at one point. Outfielder Ava Kresak stood out with a strong performance, going 4-for-8 across both games, notching two RBIs and scoring twice. Her efforts raised her batting average to .320, making her a key player to watch as the season progresses.

Madison Kay has also been a spark in the lineup lately. After a standout performance against The University of Charleston, Kay’s contributions against West Liberty included a first-inning hit and a vital bases-loaded walk, aiding the team’s offensive efforts. Meanwhile, Maria Clark stepped up as a reliable pitcher, keeping the team competitive with her performances on the mound.

As the Cardinals look ahead, they know these upcoming games against Fairmont and Frostburg are pivotal. Sitting at 1-7 in conference play, they need these wins to stay in the playoff race. Frostburg State and Fairmont State currently sit just ahead in the rankings, which gives the Cardinals extra motivation to perform well this weekend.

Historically, the Cardinals have struggled against both opponents. They trail 27-14 in their all-time series against Fairmont State and have yet to secure a win against Frostburg State in 16 meetings. Breaking these patterns would not only boost their standings but could also ignite a much-needed winning streak as they head into April.

In this competitive landscape, every game counts. As fans gear up to cheer on their team, the Cardinals are focused on turning their season around. With strong performances from players like Kresak and Kay, they have the potential to shift the momentum in their favor.
