Join Us for the Art for Climate Festival 2025 in Halong: Uniting Creativity for a Sustainable Future!

Halong City in Quang Ninh province is hosting the Art For Climate Festival for the first time. This exciting event aims to raise awareness about protecting our environment and the effects of climate change.

On February 20, the Centre for Natural Resources and Environment Communication, part of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, shared details about the festival during a press conference.

The festival highlights the beauty of Halong Bay and celebrates both national and international cultural heritages. From now until June 10, visitors can enjoy more than 20 activities centered around this vibrant city.

Planned activities include:

• Art exhibitions
• Creative competitions
• Discussions on environmental protection
• Scientific seminars on climate change
• Conferences to attract investments
• Fundraising events for environmental and heritage conservation

Climate change is a pressing issue. A UN report from 2022 warns that by 2100, if global temperatures rise by even 1.5 degrees Celsius, our climate will become four times harsher. A rise of 2 degrees could increase storms, floods, droughts, and heatwaves by five times.

Vu Minh Ly, the deputy director of the Centre for Natural Resources and Environment Communication, highlighted the urgent need for action. He noted that over 3.3 billion people are at risk from climate change, and the likelihood of death from extreme weather events has risen dramatically over the years. Furthermore, 14% of land-based species could face extinction if temperatures rise just 1.5 degrees. This number could escalate to 18% and 29% with further increases.

Ly stated that the Art For Climate Festival is not merely a cultural event; it’s part of a larger social campaign. The funding for the festival comes entirely from community sources, avoiding any reliance on the state budget. The aim is to inspire positive changes for environmental protection and sustainable development.

Vietnam is committed to tackling climate change. The government has introduced several key policies, including efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the ozone layer. Vietnam’s National Strategy on Climate Change outlines its dedication to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
