Join Us for the First-Ever Arts and Sciences Scholarship & Research Gala: Celebrate Innovation and Excellence!

The College of Arts & Sciences recently launched an exciting new tradition to celebrate faculty excellence with its first Scholarship and Research Gala. Held on May 1 at the Schine Student Center’s Goldstein Auditorium, this event highlighted the remarkable achievements of its faculty over the past year.

Key university leaders, including Interim Vice Chancellor and Provost Lois Agnew and A&S Dean Behzad Mortazavi, gathered to honor the incredible research efforts within Syracuse University’s oldest college. They emphasized the vital role A&S researchers play in advancing knowledge across diverse fields.

The College of Arts and Sciences launched a new tradition celebrating faculty scholarship.

The gala featured a reception and dinner, showcasing impressive scholarly accomplishments:

• Over 30 faculty members published books in the past two years.
• Numerous professors received prestigious awards and fellowships.
• A&S researchers secured $19 million in federal research funding for fiscal year 2024.

Associate Dean Jenny Ross noted that the event was designed to build connections across disciplines. Faculty from various departments engaged in meaningful conversations, finding common challenges and successes despite differing research focuses.

“Everyone here is passionate about their work and eager to share it with students,” Ross said. “We aimed for an event that encourages collaboration across departments.” The event’s success was thanks to the hard work of the College’s research development team and logistical coordination from support staff.

Mortazavi echoed this sentiment, stating, “The diversity in research topics reflects our commitment to advancing knowledge. The dedication of our researchers not only enriches our academic environment but also shapes the future of their fields.”

The gala also highlighted the indispensable support from the Office of Research and other key administrative teams, making it clear their contributions are vital to the college’s research initiatives.

As the evening came to a close, attendees left with a strengthened sense of community. Many expressed a desire for more time together, pondering whether next year might include dancing!

This gathering not only celebrated achievements but also set a precedent for future events, aiming to foster a culture of collaboration and shared discovery within Syracuse University’s College of Arts & Sciences.
