BELLAIRE β A new health center has opened in Bellaire, and the community is buzzing with excitement. Ohio Hills Health Center-Bellaire will celebrate its launch with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 15 at 1 p.m.
This school-based health center (SBHC) is a big step forward for local students and families. Jeff Britton, CEO of OHHC, expressed gratitude for the support from Bellaire Local School District and the Ohio Department of Health. He mentioned the help from Nationwide Childrenβs Hospital in bringing this project to life.
The center aims to improve health and education for all students. It’s backed by a state grant focused on enhancing student well-being and reducing absenteeism. Derrick McAfee, the superintendent of Bellaire Local Schools, highlighted the positive impact this center will have on students’ academic success.
Located within Bellaire High School, the health center functions like a regular doctor’s office, offering primary health care services. Itβs open to students, staff, and community members. Importantly, it accepts various insurance plans and has a Patient Discount Program for those who qualify.
The health center’s team includes Ryan Aston, a physician assistant, and other dedicated staff ready to assist year-round, even during the summer.
Recent studies show that school-based health centers can significantly reduce absenteeism and help students perform better academically. For instance, a 2022 report from the School-Based Health Alliance found that students with access to SBHCs had a 20% increase in attendance.
This initiative not only meets immediate health needs but also promotes long-term benefits for the community. As we navigate the complexities of health care, these centers are vital for ensuring that young people stay healthy and focused on their education.
