Join Us for the MLK Food Drive: A Community Effort with Southern Kentucky Action | WNKY News 40

BOWLING GREEN, KY – For 30 years, AmeriCorps has celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day by encouraging community service. This year, Community Action of Southern Kentucky invites local businesses and organizations to support this mission by donating items like toiletries and canned goods. These contributions help continue Dr. King’s vital work in supporting those in need.

Krista Graves, who leads the Foster Grandparent Program, says, “He called us to service. This is a way to bring our community together and meet the needs of those facing food insecurity.” The food drive goes beyond just MLK Day; it’s part of a year-round commitment to assist those who confront everyday hardships. Kathy Fugate, the Senior Companion Program Director, points out that donations typically decline after the holiday season, stating, “In November and December, giving is high. But by February, we often see a drop in contributions.” This extended drive aims to keep essential supplies available throughout the year. Through these efforts, the community can honor Dr. King’s legacy of service every day. For more details, check out this link: AmeriCorps MLK Day of Service.
