Join Us in Fighting Hunger: Letter Carriers Launch Community Food Drive!

The National Association of Letter Carriers is gearing up for its annual Stamp Out Hunger® food drive on Saturday, May 10. This event invites residents to help fill local food banks with essential items.

During their usual delivery routes, letter carriers will collect nonperishable food donations left near mailboxes. All contributions in the Greater Dayton area will support The Foodbank, Inc., which collaborates with 119 partner agencies to assist communities in Montgomery, Greene, and Preble counties.

To participate, simply bag shelf-stable food items like canned vegetables, soup, pasta, and cereal, and place them by your mailbox before your mail arrives on that Saturday. If you prefer to contribute financially, you can donate online at thefoodbankdayton.org/give-money. A single dollar helps provide four meals to those in need.

In this region, over 106,000 people face food insecurity, with nearly 36,000 being children—about one in five kids. These statistics illustrate a significant need for community support.

The Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive, now in its 32nd year, spans all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Guam. Since its inception in 1993, it has successfully gathered more than 1.5 billion pounds of food for local food banks and pantries.

Experts highlight the importance of community involvement in tackling hunger. According to a report from Feeding America, every contribution helps create a safety net for families struggling to afford food. Social media trends surrounding the event show an upsurge in community appreciation posts and engagement, emphasizing the collective spirit in helping those in need.
