Garnerville, N.Y. (3/29/25) — The Dominican University New York softball team faced off against Goldey-Beacom College in a doubleheader that showcased both triumph and adversity. The teams battled it out at the Haverstraw Recreational Facility, resulting in a split. Dominican claimed victory in the first game, winning 5-1, but struggled in the second, losing 14-0 after five innings.

After this doubleheader, the Lady Chargers’ record stands at 8-18 overall and 4-4 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).

In the opening game, both teams were neck and neck until the third inning when Goldey-Beacom put their first run on the board with a single. But Dominican rallied back in the fifth inning, thanks to a clutch two-run single by Toni-Jo Lopez. The Lady Chargers extended their lead in the sixth with three additional runs, securing their win with solid plays from players like Kindel Johnson, who made significant contributions at the plate and scored twice.

Emily Baxter delivered a strong performance on the mound, allowing only five hits and striking out six batters throughout the game.

The second game, however, turned the tables. Goldey-Beacom dominated, scoring 14 runs off 10 hits. The Lady Chargers struggled offensively, managing just one hit from Mia Valverde. Pitcher Gianna Barbieri faced challenges on the mound, leading to a swift end to the game.
