New Delhi: Journalist Vir Sanghvi recently voiced his frustration with Air India after the airline downgraded his cabin class for an upcoming flight. In a post on X, he mentioned that he has “lost count” of how often Air India has changed seats for its passengers.

Mr. Sanghvi had booked a seat in Premium Economy on flight AI 353, which is set to travel from Mumbai to Bangkok on January 20. However, he was notified that his seat had been moved to Economy Class.

He questioned why premium passengers would choose Air India, expressing his disappointment with the airline’s service. Sanghvi highlighted that such downgrades were not as common when the airline was run by the government, suggesting that issues have increased since the Tata Group took over in 2022.

In response, Air India apologized to Sanghvi and promised compensation for the downgrade. They provided him with options for upgrading to Business Class and ensured him that he was eligible for a full refund if necessary.

Sanghvi’s concerns reflect a broader sentiment among travelers who have experienced issues with seat allocations on Air India. A recent incident involved a father and his child being moved from Business Class to Economy to accommodate a crew member.

Airlines need to focus on passenger experience, especially for those flying in premium classes. Frequent downgrades may discourage loyal customers from choosing the airline in the future.
