Journey Through Time: Explore Lord Rama’s Path from Ayodhya to Rameshwaram by Rail

If you’re a devotee of Lord Rama or someone curious about India’s sacred journeys, a special experience is coming your way. Indian Railways is launching the Shri Ramayana Yatra, a luxurious 17-day train tour designed for pilgrims. This journey retraces the legendary path described in the ancient epic, the Ramayana.

Starting on March 30, 2026, from Safdarjung Railway Station, the train will take passengers to significant Ramayana sites across India and Nepal over 16 nights, covering around 7,560 km. This journey also coincides with Ram Navami celebrations, which honor the birth of Lord Rama.

The Shri Ramayana Yatra was introduced under the Bharat Gaurav Scheme, blending spiritual exploration with modern comforts. Passengers won’t need to worry about travel or accommodations; everything is organized for a smooth pilgrimage.

Key Destinations Along the Journey

Travelers will visit important sites tied to Lord Rama’s life. The first stop, Ayodhya, is believed to be Lord Rama’s birthplace. There, you can explore the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and Hanuman Garhi.

The journey continues to Nandigram, associated with Rama’s brother, Bharat. Crossing into Nepal, passengers will visit Sitamarhi and Janakpur, the legendary birthplace of Goddess Sita and home to the grand Janaki Temple.

  • Buxar (Ram Rekha Ghat)
  • Varanasi, including the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the evening Ganga Aarti
  • Prayagraj and the sacred Triveni Sangam
  • Shringverpur
  • Chitrakoot
  • Nashik, especially the Panchvati area linked to Rama’s exile
