Katee Sackhoff on Her 3-Year Struggle After ‘The Mandalorian’: ‘I Didn’t Understand My Character and It Broke Me’

Katee Sackhoff, known for her role as Bo-Katan in “The Mandalorian,” recently opened up about her journey after the show. On her podcast, “The Sackhoff Show,” she spoke with Tahmoh Penikett, her co-star from “Battlestar Galactica,” about the impact the character had on her self-esteem.

Sackhoff shared that playing Bo-Katan led her to doubt herself. “I lost all my confidence after ‘Mandalorian’,” she admitted. Although she’s always connected with her characters on some level, she found it hard to identify with Bo-Katan. “I never really felt her deeply,” she explained. “My style of acting has always been to trust your instincts and play the reality of the situation. But this was different.”

Sackhoff first voiced Bo-Katan in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” in the 2010s, later bringing her to life in the live-action series in 2020. As Season 3 wrapped up in 2023, she faced a challenging period of auditions, struggling to land roles. “It just destroyed my confidence,” she said, reflecting on three years without significant work.

To regain her footing, Sackhoff brought on a new manager and acting coach. He focused not on teaching her how to act, but on rebuilding her self-assurance. “You just need to find your confidence again,” he told her.

In 2024, she returned to screens in an episode of “Law & Order” and took on voice roles in various animated series. Fans can also look forward to her appearance in the upcoming “Carrie” series on Prime Video.
