Kean President Lamont O. Repollet joined New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy on this mission. They sought to foster strategic relationships with business and academic leaders in the Gulf region.

During their visit, Murphy signed agreements with three key institutions in Dubai: the American University in Dubai, the University of Wollongong in Dubai, and the University of Dubai. These agreements pave the way for student and faculty exchanges and collaborative research efforts.

This initiative adds to Kean’s international profile, building on its existing partnership with Wenzhou-Kean University in China. Repollet emphasized the importance of global engagement, stating, “We believe international engagement is essential to preparing our students for success in a global society.” He noted that these partnerships enrich the educational experience and foster equity and global impact.

Kean recently also attended the Spring UniExpo 2025 in Dubai, led by Chancellor Joseph Youngblood II. The delegation aimed to showcase Kean’s academic programs and seek new partnerships in the UAE and Middle East. This reflects a growing trend in higher education where universities actively seek global collaborations.

Recent statistics show that international students contribute significantly to U.S. higher education. According to the Institute of International Education, almost 1 million international students were enrolled in U.S. colleges in the 2021-2022 academic year. This underlines the value of such partnerships for universities aiming for a diverse student body.

With the world becoming more interconnected, initiatives like this one keep universities like Kean relevant. They enhance academic opportunities and prepare students for a multicultural world.
