In his first round, Algya started strong, hitting par on his first five holes. He had a birdie on the seventh hole but dealt with some bumps along the way, including a double bogey and a couple of bogies on the back nine. He managed to finish on a high note with a birdie on the 16th hole and closed out with two pars. As a result, he currently sits tied for 53rd place among 75 players.
His second round is set to begin at 9:01 AM on Tuesday. Live updates can be found on Scoreboard by Clippd.
The 2026 championship features 81 teams and 45 individual competitors across six regionals. Only the top five teams and the best individual from each regional will qualify for the finals. The finals will be held from May 29 to June 3 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Fun Fact: Algya is the 14th Lion to earn an individual slot in the NCAA Tournament, following Riley Lewis, who advanced from the Morgan Hill Regional in 2023.
As we watch this event unfold, it’s worth noting the growing trends in college golf. More young athletes are participating, with the number of NCAA golf teams increasing steadily. In recent years, almost 300 Division I men’s golf teams have seized the spotlight, showcasing talent and competitiveness.
Looking ahead, Algya has a strong chance to make an impact and potentially qualify for the finals, reflecting LMU’s commitment to student-athlete success in both academics and sports.
