Kohli Dazzles: Fastest Player to Reach 14,000 ODI Runs, Surpassing Tendulkar’s Record!

Virat Kohli had an impressive outing against Pakistan, reaching a remarkable milestone of 14,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He stepped onto the field just 15 runs shy of this achievement and led India to victory with an unbeaten century—his 51st in ODIs. Kohli sealed the win by hitting a stylish cover drive for a boundary off spinner Kushdil Shah.

With this feat, Kohli joined an elite group as only the third player to cross 14,000 runs in ODIs, following legends Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara. He achieved this in just 351 innings, which is 63 innings fewer than Tendulkar took to reach the same mark.

Kohli’s batting average in ODIs is remarkable, sitting over 57, a stark contrast to Tendulkar’s 44.19 and Sangakkara’s 41.73 at the time they reached 14,000 runs. He also became the fastest player to reach 14,000 runs in terms of balls faced, needing only 14,984 balls. For comparison, Tendulkar faced 16,292 balls and Sangakkara 17,789 balls to hit their milestones. Notably, while Tendulkar and Sangakkara celebrated their achievements with centuries, both did so in losing efforts.

Since surpassing the 8,000-run mark in 2017, Kohli has set the record for being the fastest to every subsequent 1,000-run milestone. Currently, he ranks third among the highest run-scorers in ODIs and is on track to overtake Sangakkara’s total of 14,234 runs. Tendulkar leads with an impressive 18,426 runs. Kohli is also known for holding the record for the most centuries in ODIs, having surpassed Tendulkar’s previous record of 49 centuries during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

In addition to his batting prowess, Kohli made headlines earlier in the match by setting a new record for the most catches by an Indian fielder in ODIs, totaling 158 catches. This adds another impressive achievement to his already stellar career.
