‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Makes History: Four Hot 100 Top 10s with HUNTR/X’s ‘Golden’ Leading the Charge!

Netflix’s new movie KPop Demon Hunters is making waves with its electrifying soundtrack. The track “How It’s Done” by HUNTR/X jumped into the Hot 100 top 10, marking its second hit after “Golden.” This latest track saw 17.2 million streams during the tracking week, a slight 2% increase.

HUNTR/X isn’t alone in the spotlight. The rival group, Saja Boys, is also shining bright with their own hits. Their song “Your Idol” remains steady at No. 4, while “Soda Pop” has climbed from No. 10 to No. 5, boasting 18.4 million streams—a 4% boost. “It is annoyingly catchy,” was Rumi from HUNTR/X’s playful comment about “Soda Pop.”

Interestingly, both groups are part of the soundtrack’s success. Together, they have made KPop Demon Hunters the first soundtrack to feature four songs in the Hot 100 top 10 at the same time. This hasn’t happened since Waiting To Exhale achieved five top 10s back in 1995-96. Other notable soundtracks with four top 10s include Saturday Night Fever, Grease, and Purple Rain.

The last time three songs from a soundtrack landed in the Hot 100’s top five together was back on April 15, 1978, with Saturday Night Fever. That iconic film’s music included Bee Gees’ “Night Fever” at No. 1 and “Stayin’ Alive” at No. 2, alongside Yvonne Elliman’s “If I Can’t Have You” at No. 5.

Ian Eisendrath, the executive music producer for KPop Demon Hunters, shared his excitement with Billboard: “It’s thrilling that people are hearing the songs in two ways. Some are loving the film, and the film is making the songs hits … and some are just encountering the songs, and the songs are making the film a hit.”

The film’s visibility is expected to grow with upcoming sing-along screenings on August 23-24. Any increase in song popularity from these events will reflect on next week’s Billboard charts, showcasing the combined power of the movie and its music.
