Lakers Make Strategic Move: Goodwin Gets Contract Boost as Reddish is Waived

The Los Angeles Lakers have made some roster changes by signing Jordan Goodwin to a standard two-year contract and releasing Cam Reddish. This news was shared on Thursday.

Jordan Goodwin has been a standout reserve for the Lakers. He’s gained the trust of head coach JJ Redick and has shown his skills during his time on a two-way contract. In the 19 games he’s played this season, he’s averaged 6.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists, shooting 47% from the field overall. His three-point shooting is impressive too, hitting 41.3% of his attempts. Goodwin’s energy on the court has made a significant impact, especially with his ability to grab offensive rebounds, doing so in 18 of those 19 games.

Goodwin, 26, faced a tough start to the season. He joined the Lakers for training camp but was mostly sidelined due to an injury, appearing in only one preseason game. After being waived, he joined the South Bay Lakers in the G League and later returned to the NBA with a two-way deal in February.

Before his Lakers journey, Goodwin played for the Capital City Go-Go in the G League and went undrafted after a solid college career at St. Louis University.

On the other hand, Cam Reddish’s time with the Lakers is coming to an end. He played 33 games this season, averaging 3.2 points and two rebounds. His performance has been underwhelming, which contributed to the decision to let him go. Earlier this season, the Lakers attempted to trade Reddish but that deal fell through due to health concerns surrounding another player, Mark Williams.

The Lakers’ decision to focus on Goodwin could be a strategic move as they seek to strengthen their bench. In today’s highly competitive NBA, teams increasingly rely on depth, especially as injuries can derail even the strongest lineups. According to recent NBA data, teams with a strong bench have a higher chance of making deep playoff runs.

In the social media world, fans have expressed mixed feelings about the Lakers’ moves. Some are excited about Goodwin’s potential, while others have voiced disappointment over Reddish’s release.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on how these changes affect the Lakers’ overall performance. With Goodwin stepping into a more significant role, he has the chance to prove himself and contribute to the team’s success.
