Los Angeles Chargers Secure One-Year Contract with Running Back Harris: What This Means for the Team

The Los Angeles Chargers have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris to a one-year deal that could be worth up to $9.25 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Harris, a first-round draft pick in 2021, has been a consistent performer over his four seasons with the Steelers, rushing for over 1,000 yards each year. He started all 68 games during his time in Pittsburgh, showcasing his durability and reliability on the field.

In his rookie season, Harris made a strong impression, earning a Pro Bowl selection with 1,200 rushing yards and 467 receiving yards. He also scored 10 touchdowns that year, showing his versatility as a running back.

Although he topped the 1,000-yard mark every season, Harris averaged 3.9 yards per carry throughout his career with the Steelers. While some might see that as less impressive, his ability to stay healthy and perform consistently cannot be overlooked.

Before joining the NFL, Harris played college football at Alabama. There, he was a key player, helping his team secure two national championships. In his senior year, he led the SEC with 1,466 rushing yards and topped the nation with 26 rushing touchdowns. He also received All-America honors for his outstanding performance that season.

Throughout his NFL career so far, Harris has accumulated 4,312 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns. In addition to his rushing stats, he has made 180 catches for 1,149 yards and scored 6 receiving touchdowns.

This new chapter with the Chargers could be an opportunity for Harris to continue proving himself and make an impact in the league.
