An NBA player is urging the Atlanta Hawks to rethink their upcoming promotional night that highlights Magic City, a well-known adult entertainment club, during their game against the Orlando Magic on March 16.
Luke Kornet, a center for the San Antonio Spurs, shared his concerns in a statement on Medium, emphasizing that the Hawks’ promotional material didn’t acknowledge the club’s nature. He politely requested the team cancel the event, pointing out the potential for negative societal impacts.
Despite Kornet’s appeal, a Hawks spokesperson confirmed that the event will proceed as planned. The NBA has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.
The event, named “Magic City Monday,” was announced as a celebration of Atlanta’s cultural landmarks. Jami Gertz, the Hawks’ principal owner, was involved in producing the documentary “Magic City: An American Fantasy,” underscoring its connection to Atlanta’s cultural scene.
Halftime entertainment will include a performance by T.I., and there will be merchandise available, including a hoodie and famous wings named after former Hawks player Lou Williams.
