Marshall University Swim Stars Shine Bright
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Exciting news from Marshall University! Sophomore Lauren McNamara has been named the American Conference Swimmer of the Week, while freshman Maddie Emment also received recognition as the Freshman Swimmer of the Week.
In a recent tri-meet in Athens against Ohio and Buffalo, McNamara set a school record in the 200 Butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:58.35. That’s the fastest in the American Conference! She also took second in the 100 Butterfly (54.52), marking it as one of the top performances in the league.
McNamara, hailing from Flat Rock, Michigan, also played a key role in relays, posting impressive splits of 53.75 in the 400 Medley Relay and 24.21 in the 200 Medley Relay.
On the other hand, Emment had a standout performance at the same meet, winning the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:05.53 and the 500 Freestyle in 4:56.70. These times rank as the second and third fastest in the conference this season. She also placed second in the 200 Freestyle (1:50.94), making her mark in several events.
The team will be back in action on Saturday for a meet against JMU in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Keep an eye on these athletes as they continue to rise in their sport!
