Mahershala Ali stepped onto the red carpet in New York on Monday for the premiere of his new film, Jurassic World Rebirth. While there, he also shared his thoughts on his much-anticipated Marvel project, Blade.
Blade has faced challenges over the years. Two directors have left, and Ali has been attached to the role since 2019. The film’s progress was further slowed by the recent strikes involving actors and writers. Last year, it was completely taken off Disney’s 2025 schedule.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ali shared his current mindset: “I’m just taking it a day at a time. I’m doing the best work I can.” He pointed out another project, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, as a way he’s keeping his skills sharp for action scenes. “I would love for Blade to happen; we’ll see,” he added. “I don’t know where Marvel is at right now. I’m just looking for the next great part, I really am.”
Ali also discussed the creative challenges of working on large films like Jurassic World Rebirth, which features an impressive cast, including Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey. He mentioned, “These types of films are so hard to shoot because of the locations and the time involved. One scene can take months and span multiple countries. It’s difficult to make sense of it as an actor.”
Yet, Ali finds joy in the end result. “The best part is completing it and seeing how everything comes together. [Director] Gareth [Edwards] did an incredible job with editing and post-production.”
Jurassic World Rebirth is set to hit theaters on July 2.
Recent trends on social media show that excitement for Blade remains high, with fans circulating old clips and art of the character to express their anticipation. According to a recent survey by Deadline, 70% of Marvel fans are eager to see how Ali brings this iconic role to life.
As Hollywood continues to adapt, Ali’s perseverance reflects a broader trend in the industry: many projects face delays, yet the passion for storytelling remains strong.
