Joy Reid’s evening show on MSNBC, “The ReidOut,” is being canceled as part of a major programming shift by the network’s new president, Rebecca Kutler. This change means the last episode is set to air this week.
“The ReidOut” has been a significant part of MSNBC for five years, offering deep interviews with politicians and influential figures. It will be replaced by a new show hosted by three anchors: Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez. These co-hosts currently lead “The Weekend,” which airs on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
MSNBC has not commented on the specifics of the change. However, it’s clear that this programming overhaul is Kutler’s first major move since taking her position. She aims to boost the network’s ratings, which, while better than CNN’s, still trail behind Fox News.
More significant changes may be on the horizon for MSNBC. Earlier this year, Rachel Maddow returned to hosting her show five nights a week after a period of reduced appearances. This decision followed shifts in the network’s lineup and viewership strategies.
