Major Disruption: Sun Country Airlines Flight from Minneapolis to Mazatlan Diverted – What You Need to Know

A flight from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport faced a security issue and had to change its route on Wednesday afternoon.

Flight SY593, operated by Sun Country Airlines, was headed to Mazatlán International Airport. The airline acted out of caution due to the security concern.

The flight landed safely at El Paso International Airport in Texas. It took off from Minneapolis at 2:21 p.m. CST and landed at 4:25 p.m. MST. On board were two pilots, four flight attendants, and 150 passengers.

Sun Country Airlines confirmed that the Boeing 737-800 landed without any problems. The airline ensured that all passengers were safe and arranged overnight accommodations. They expect to transport everyone to their original destination on Thursday.

A spokesperson for Sun Country said, “We apologize to our passengers for this situation, but safety and security are our top priorities. We will work to minimize disruptions and get everyone to their destinations as quickly and safely as possible.”

Sun Country is collaborating with law enforcement to look into the security concern. The FBI has confirmed their team is responding in El Paso, but further details about the situation have not been released.

This flight was already delayed before its departure due to heavy snowfall in the Twin Cities, which affected hundreds of others flights at MSP.
