Manchester United has welcomed Germany’s Lea Schuller from Bayern Munich. The 28-year-old forward has signed a contract that runs until June 2029. She is the second new face for the club this January, following full-back Hanna Lundkvist.
Lea spent five successful years at Bayern, racking up over 100 appearances and helping secure four league titles. With the German national team, she has found the net 54 times in 82 matches. Notably, she participated in the Euro 2022, where Germany finished as runners-up to England, and helped earn a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games.
In her own words, Schuller stated, “From the first conversations with manager Marc Skinner, the club’s ambitions were clear. I’m excited to join Manchester United, a place where I can achieve more in my career.”
Matt Johnson, Manchester United’s director of women’s football, expressed enthusiasm over Schuller’s signing. He noted, “Lea’s goal-scoring record is impressive, and her style will add a new layer to our attack. Her winning mentality will be invaluable to our young team as we strive for success both domestically and in Europe.”
As Manchester United pushes through the transfer window, they’re also looking to strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead in the Women’s Champions League. Additionally, midfielder Hinata Miyazawa has committed to the club, extending her stay until the summer of 2029.
Women’s football is seeing increased attention and investment. According to a recent FIFA report, the tournament’s TV audience reached 1.4 billion in 2023. This growth reflects how teams like Manchester United are building for a competitive future.
