MINNEAPOLIS – A spring snowstorm has blanketed the Twin Cities metro area with several inches of snow, and it’s still coming down as the morning commute approaches.
This March storm is the biggest snowfall of the season so far, with Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport recording significant totals.
Here’s a snapshot of some reported snow totals:
- Ellendale: 10.2 inches
- Apple Valley: 8.5 inches
- Savage: 8 inches
- Hastings: 8 inches
- River Falls, Wisconsin: 8 inches
- MSP Airport: 7.4 inches
- Chanhassen: 6.5 inches

If you want to share your own snow totals, make sure to measure the average in your yard or on a deck, rather than measuring drifts.
What’s next? Expect snow to continue throughout the morning commute, with strong winds gusting up to 40 mph. A winter storm warning is in place for the Twin Cities and much of western Wisconsin. Most of southern Minnesota is under a blizzard warning until Wednesday afternoon.
Snowfall will lighten this morning and taper off by lunchtime. Travel will likely be tricky as cleanup efforts start. This afternoon, skies will clear up, but it will remain windy and cold as the day ends. By Thursday, we can look forward to sunny skies and temperatures around 36 degrees, which should help melt away some of this snow.
The snowstorm has also led to several school closures and delays. For the latest updates, check local news resources.
