March Microsoft Updates Disrupt Teams and OneDrive Sign-Ins: What You Need to Know

Windows 11

Microsoft recently noted that a March update for Windows 11 is causing sign-in problems with Microsoft accounts in apps like Teams and OneDrive. This issue started after the release of the KB5079473 cumulative update during this month’s Patch Tuesday.

Many users are seeing error messages that say their devices are not connected to the Internet, even when they are. This sign-in trouble affects various Microsoft applications, including Edge, Excel, Word, and Microsoft 365 Copilot.

According to Microsoft, attempts to sign in will show a message like, “You’ll need the Internet for this. It doesn’t look like you’re connected to the Internet.” This problem specifically happens with personal Microsoft accounts and does not affect business accounts using Entra ID.

While Microsoft works on a fix, they suggest a simple workaround: restart your PC. This could help restore the internet connection state and resolve the issue. However, if you restart without an active connection, the problem may resurface.

Interestingly, since the updates rolled out, Microsoft also released two emergency updates to fix other significant issues, including Bluetooth visibility problems and security vulnerabilities in certain tools.

To make matters more complex, some Samsung laptops running Windows 11 have been facing issues due to a problematic version of the Samsung Galaxy Connect app. Users have reported access problems with the C:\ drive and app failures.

It’s vital to stay informed about such updates, given the rapid changes in technology. For instance, a recent survey showed that 64% of users install updates eagerly, while 36% are hesitant due to potential bugs. That’s a significant concern when updates can disrupt daily tasks.

As technology develops, the challenges posed by software updates remain. History shows that similar issues have occurred in past updates, highlighting the importance of user feedback in developing effective solutions.

For ongoing updates and guidance, you can check Microsoft’s release health dashboard for real-time information. Keeping your device updated is crucial, but so is understanding how updates may impact your productivity.
