Exciting Finish at the 2025 Mountaineer Invitational
Marshall golfers J.F. Aber and Ryan Bilby made an impressive mark at the 2025 Mountaineer Invitational held in Bridgeport, West Virginia. Competing against tough nationally-ranked teams, Aber secured a tie for 13th place with a score of 8-over par, while Bilby followed closely behind in 17th place at 9-over. Marshall University finished fifth out of 18 teams, standing out as the highest non-Power Four school in the event.
Marshall’s coach, Matt Grobe, praised his players. “This was a very challenging week. I thought the guys played great. J.F. and Ryan finishing in the top-20 in such a highly-rated tournament is very impressive,” he said. He noted the tough course and adverse weather conditions that the team faced during the competition.
The tournament got off to a rocky start as rain interrupted play on Monday, pushing the second round into Tuesday. Players dealt with further delays and worsening conditions. Aber’s standout performance came in his first round when he shot 2-under par, highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 12th hole. Meanwhile, Bilby shone during the second round, scoring birdies at the 8th and 9th holes.
In the concluding round, Cameron Jarvis turned in the team’s best score, finishing with four birdies on his last ten holes for a final score of 2-over 74.
As the Herd wraps up their regular season, they are now gearing up for the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Men’s Golf Championship, scheduled for April 21-24 in Madison, Mississippi. With strong performances at the Mountaineer Invitational, Marshall is building confidence for this crucial event.
