The USS Ford has returned home after an impressive 326-day deployment, the longest for a U.S. carrier in over 50 years. The supercarrier, carrying nearly 4,500 Sailors, docked at Naval Station Norfolk amid joyous reunions with families. This homecoming marks an extraordinary journey during which the Ford not only conducted operations in Europe but also shifted to the Caribbean and the eastern Mediterranean. This involved crucial missions such as Operation Absolute Resolve, which successfully extracted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, and Operation Epic Fury, aimed at projecting power against Iran.
During its deployment, the Ford covered over 57,000 nautical miles and conducted more than 12,000 aircraft launches. The Carrier Strike Group earned the prestigious Presidential Unit Citation for their effort and dedication.
In contrast to the Ford, three other carriers—USS George Washington, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, and USS Theodore Roosevelt—returned home with less media attention. Each carrier is engaged in routine operations and training as they prepare for future deployments.
Meanwhile, USS George Washington, the Navy’s only forward-deployed carrier, completed a shakedown cruise and is gearing up for its upcoming patrol in the Western Pacific. A Navy spokesperson assured that regular maintenance is crucial for operational readiness, explaining that short maintenance periods help to keep the carrier’s systems in top shape.
In the Middle East, the U.S. Navy continues to maintain a robust presence, enforcing a blockade against Iran. Currently, two Carrier Strike Groups and an Amphibious Ready Group operate within the U.S. Central Command area, with naval assets actively monitoring commercial vessels. Recent reports indicate that 81 commercial vessels have been redirected and four disabled in efforts to uphold the blockade.
