Meagan Good Bids Farewell to ‘Harlem’ and Embraces a Bright Future with Jonathan Majors

NEW YORK – Meagan Good is celebrating a fruitful time in her life, cherishing the hard work that led her to this point. The star of “Harlem” expresses immense gratitude for everything she has experienced recently.

“Despite the challenges of the past few years, I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long while. It’s truly wonderful,” said Good in an emotional moment. She reflected on her relationship with Jonathan Majors, her role in “Harlem,” and the recent Los Angeles wildfires. “I’m just grateful for the journey and for the love in my life.”

A lot of that love comes from Jonathan Majors, who has faced his share of scrutiny. Their relationship, alongside Good’s work on “Harlem” and Majors’ upcoming role in Tyler Perry’s film “Divorce in the Black,” has become a hot topic. The third season of “Harlem” is premiering on Prime Video this Thursday.

“It’s amazing that our supporters stuck by us, much like ‘Game of Thrones’ fans,” Good shared. She plays Camille, a professor navigating love and life in New York City. “Being part of something so loved is really exciting.”

“Harlem” has stood strong, continuing to resonate with audiences despite challenges posed by the pandemic and industry strikes. The show features four women in their 30s as they explore their relationships and careers within Manhattan’s vibrant Black community. It may not have received the same accolades as Issa Rae’s “Insecure,” but it has certainly garnered a dedicated fan base.

Reflecting on representation, Jerrie Johnson, who portrays Tye on the show, noted how Black characters are often underrepresented in New York-based series. “Shows like ‘Friends’ and ‘Sex and The City’ hardly featured Black people, but in Harlem, that’s just not the case,” she explained.

Good, now 43, has found this role and its camaraderie refreshing. “Being part of this team has been the best experience of my life,” she said, reminiscing about her early beginnings in films like Ice Cube’s “Friday” and Nickelodeon’s “Cousin Skeeter.”

Good’s relationship with Majors has faced challenges, especially after the allegations against him came to light. Yet, she finds strength in her Christian faith. “In my 20s, I often internalized negativity from the media, but now I’m learning to let go,” she said. “Seeing those I love under fire is still hard, but I’ve been praying for relief from worrying about what others think of me.”

Majors faced legal troubles, receiving a misdemeanor conviction but avoided jail time after entering a counseling program. Good has stood by him throughout, expressing hope for his career’s revival. “The claims that this is just a publicity stunt? They can be hurtful, but I’ve moved past caring about that,” she stated.

Looking ahead, Good dreams of starring in an action film and is open to starting a family with Majors while they venture into a health and wellness brand together. Colleagues believe she deserves greater recognition for her talents. “This is her phoenix moment,” Johnson said, celebrating Good’s growth as an artist.

Ultimately, Good’s focus remains on touching people’s lives rather than seeking accolades. “Any appreciation is a gift,” she said with a smile. “I believe my best is still ahead of me, and I’m just getting started.”
