Meta Clarifies: No Automatic Follows for Trump on Instagram and Facebook – What You Need to Know!

Meta has responded to concerns from users who found themselves automatically following President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and First Lady Melania Trump on Instagram and Threads. Many were surprised to see these accounts on their following list without any action on their part.

Andy Stone, Meta’s communications director, clarified that no one was secretly added to the accounts. In a statement on Threads, he said, “People were not made to automatically follow any of the official Facebook or Instagram accounts for the President, Vice President, or First Lady.”

Stone explained that the content on these accounts changes with each new administration. He acknowledged that it might take some time for follow and unfollow actions to be processed as the accounts transition to new management.

Users took to social media to express their frustration. One Threads user questioned, “How did I end up following T or JD this morning when I definitely didn’t click the follow button?” Others reported that trying to unfollow these accounts did not work.

These complaints come amid recent changes at Meta, including updates to its policies and processes. Notably, the company has removed some third-party fact-checkers and made adjustments to its diversity initiatives.

Additionally, on January 6, Dana White, the UFC chief and a close ally of Trump, was appointed to the Meta board. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s chief, was also invited to Trump’s inauguration, highlighting the connection between the company and the current administration.
