Ministry of Environment Pledges to Enhance Climate and Health Resilience for a Sustainable Future

Fiji’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is working hard to improve environmental policies and boost climate resilience. There’s a growing need for a united approach to take care of our planet.

At the Oceania Planetary Health Forum, Minister Filimoni Vosarogo discussed four main areas of focus. First, he highlighted the importance of empowering communities to help with environmental restoration. Second, there’s a plan to enhance research through a new Fiji-based planetary health center. Third, they aim to ramp up initiatives that connect climate and health. Lastly, fostering collaboration between different government ministries is key.

Vosarogo pointed out that it’s better to act before a crisis hits rather than just responding to it. This approach will follow the principles of the Vanua, which means decisions will honor Fiji’s culture and respect the environment.

The Minister also thanked the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the French Development Agency, and Bloomberg Philanthropies for their support in progressing these vital initiatives.

As Fiji faces the ongoing challenges of climate change, Vosarogo urged everyone—policymakers, researchers, community leaders, and international partners—to work together. The goal is to create a healthier, more resilient Pacific for everyone.
