Welcome to the Monday Leaderboard! Let’s dive into the weekend’s biggest golf stories. Pour yourself an Arnold Palmer, sit back, and enjoy the Return of the King.

Tiger Woods Takes to the Tee

TGL, the new indoor golf league created by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, premiered last week. Despite not being able to see Woods on the course then, the ratings were impressive. This week, Woods is set to join the action and face off against Justin Rose in Los Angeles. Whether you love or hate the concept of TGL, it’s undoubtedly exciting to see Woods swing a club again, even if it’s indoors. His competitive spirit is alive and well, even if his physical condition limits him to lighter play.

Nick Taylor’s Unlikely Victory

On Sunday, Nick Taylor had just a 0.4% chance of winning when he reached the 18th hole. Against the odds, he made an astonishing 59-foot chip-in eagle to finish tied at 16-under par, leading to a playoff that he eventually won. This marks his third playoff victory in three years—a remarkable feat! If Taylor manages to perform consistently better in regular rounds, he could be a real contender in upcoming tournaments.

On the flip side, golfers J.J. Spaun and Stephan Jaeger, who seemed poised to fight for the title, faltered in the final stretch, managing only one birdie in their last ten holes. That’s the challenge of golf—anything can change in an instant!

Remembering Grayson Murray

One year ago, Grayson Murray celebrated his first win in seven years at the Sony Open. Tragically, he passed away four months later. This weekend, at the same tournament, his family was presented with the ceremonial check he left behind after his victory. It was a heartfelt tribute, reminding everyone of the brighter moments shared with Murray.

A LIV Golf Cautionary Tale

Eugenio Chacarra, once a standout talent for LIV Golf, has experienced a significant downturn in his career. After leaving Oklahoma State to join LIV in 2022, he initially found success, but now he finds himself outside the top 24 players, leading to his release from the team. Chacarra recently expressed his disappointment in the lack of support from LIV for his growth. Despite having financial success at just 24 years old, he is now in a tough spot without clear opportunities ahead.

Bryson DeChambeau & Fan Fun

Bryson DeChambeau recently showcased his playful side by participating in a fan challenge that led to excitement and laughter. It only took the fan five swings to achieve a hole-in-one at his house—an impressive feat! DeChambeau knows how to engage with fans, proving that golf can be about fun and spontaneity, too.

Trophy of the Week: The Sony Open

This week’s trophy spotlight is on the unique design from the Sony Open, featuring a gold surfboard. When paired with a lei, it creates a beautiful representation of Hawaiian culture and tradition, making it a prized piece for any golfer.

Mulligan of the Week: John Daly’s Legendary Kicks

John Daly has always known how to entertain, and a throwback clip recently surfaced showing him kicking long field goals at a Denver Broncos practice. Was it 50 yards? Who knows, but it was impressive nonetheless! Daly’s spirited approach to life and golf makes him a memorable figure in the sport.

As we wrap up this week’s recap, keep swinging true, and we’ll catch you next Monday!
