Aizawl, June 3—Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, L. Murugan, emphasized the importance of students in realizing the government’s vision for an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ during his two-day visit to Kolasib district in northern Mizoram.
Murugan engaged with students, discussing India’s path to becoming a fully developed nation by 2047, and underscored the role of the younger generation in achieving the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047.’
Accompanied by Kolasib Deputy Commissioner H. Dolianbuaia and Superintendent of Police Lalrinpuia Varte, Murugan visited various government initiatives and educational institutions in the district.
His visit began at the Regional Sports Training Centre (RSTC) in Saidan, where he observed a football exhibition match featuring trainees. He also discussed further development of the sports training facility with officials.
Later, Murugan launched the “Khet Bachao Abhiyan,” an initiative by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), which aims to promote sustainable farming practices and improve the quality of agricultural crops. He highlighted the need for modern technologies to enhance productivity and soil health.
During the program, he released a publication titled “Weather-Based Agro-Advisories for Climate-Resilient Farming in Mizoram: A Compilation of Success Stories,” which documents successful agricultural practices suited to the state’s conditions.
Murugan then visited the PM Government Model Primary School-I in Kolasib, part of the PM SHRI initiative. He reiterated the pivotal role of education and innovation in the country’s development.
At Diakkawn High School, NCC cadets welcomed him with a parade, and students showcased traditional Mizo cultural performances. The Union Minister also observed practical demonstrations of vocational courses aligned with the National Education Policy.
The visit concluded with an interaction at the Anganwadi Centre at Kolasib Vengthar, where Murugan reviewed child welfare and nutrition services under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Project, engaging with workers, children, and parents.
This visit highlighted the government’s focus on reinforcing education, sports, agriculture, and child development initiatives in Mizoram while encouraging community involvement in national development efforts.
