NASA’s SpaceX Crew-10 mission is set to launch tonight at 7:49 PM ET from Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A. The mission will use a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to send the Dragon spacecraft into orbit, where it is expected to dock with the International Space Station (ISS) around 6:00 AM ET on March 13th.
On this mission, astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams will finally return to Earth after spending nine months aboard the ISS. Their original mission with the Boeing Starliner was meant to last just eight days, but technical issues like thruster failures forced them to extend their stay. They are now scheduled to ride back on the Crew-9 capsule, with a tentative return date of March 16th, 2025.
Crew-10 includes NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, along with Japanese astronaut Takuya Onishi and Russian cosmonaut Kirill Peskov. They’ll spend a few months on the ISS conducting experiments and research, and even performing spacewalks.
This crewed mission is part of NASA’s ongoing collaboration with SpaceX and other international partners to continue the human presence in space. According to a recent study by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, over 300 experiments will take place on the ISS in the coming year, which underscores the importance of these missions for scientific advancement.
Social media trends show that many space enthusiasts are excited about the Crew-10 launch, with thousands of comments and reactions across Twitter and Instagram, highlighting the public’s continuous interest in space exploration.
