Nasscom Launches UK Forum to Enhance AI Collaboration and Strengthen Tech Trade Relations

Nasscom recently launched its UK Forum, aiming to strengthen the tech and trade ties between India and the UK. This is noteworthy because the UK is India’s second-largest market for technology, generating over $90 billion annually.

Currently, India and the UK share a bilateral trade of $56 billion, with $33 billion stemming from services. The India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) seeks to double this figure by 2030, highlighting the need for digital growth.

The forum will focus on advancing AI collaboration, especially in public services. With India’s experience in AI and digital public infrastructure, this initiative could help the UK improve citizen services significantly. It will also address AI readiness, workforce training, and the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises. Importantly, the forum promotes responsible AI practices and encourages innovation for mutual benefit.

The launch took place at the Indian High Commission in London, attended by Kanishka Narayan, UK’s Minister for AI and Online Safety, along with industry leaders and stakeholders from both nations.

Nasscom emphasized that the forum will forge a strategic partnership involving governments, enterprises, academia, and the Indian community. They also released a compendium titled “Indian Tech Impacting the UK,” showcasing the benefits of India’s tech industry in the UK, from innovation to community impact.

Historically, Indian tech firms have played a crucial role in the UK, contributing to competitiveness and job creation. India is the second-largest foreign direct investor in the UK, with over 1,197 Indian-owned companies. Additionally, there are more than 75 Global Capability Centers in the UK leveraging Indian talent and innovation.

As the tech landscape continues to evolve, partnerships like this one signal a shared commitment to growth and innovation between India and the UK. This collaboration could become a model for similar initiatives globally, fostering stronger ties and creating opportunities in the tech sector.
