North Alabama Baseball Dominates Colonels with Thrilling 7-5 Victory!

North Alabama Baseball Sweeps Eastern Kentucky

The University of North Alabama baseball team continued its winning streak with a 7-5 victory over Eastern Kentucky at Mike D. Lane Field. This marks their third straight series win against the Colonels, showcasing their strong performance throughout the season.

This season, UNA achieved its sixth series sweep in the Atlantic Sun Conference, with the last two coming against EKU and Central Arkansas. They are now sitting with an overall record of 11-13, and a conference record of 4-2.

The Lions showed off their hitting skills with 12 hits, batting an impressive .375 in this game. This also marks their ninth game this season with 10 or more hits, highlighting their offensive strength.

Catcher Will Millard and right fielder Wes Walker made headlines by hitting back-to-back home runs. This was Millard’s second home run this weekend, while Walker has now homered in consecutive games.

Eastern Kentucky started strong with a two-run home run in the first inning. However, the Lions’ starting pitcher, Reese Young, paired with John Allen Stogner, managed to shut down EKU’s offense for five scoreless innings afterward.

UNA’s pitching was particularly effective throughout the series, with no more than five strikeouts in each game—just three on Sunday. The Lions excelled in various hitting situations, including hitting .400 with two outs and .300 with runners in scoring position.

This season, North Alabama has recorded 32 home runs, leading the ASUN Conference. Jenkins also had a standout game with two RBI singles and a season-high three hits.

As players continued to shine, Nash Rippen extended his on-base streak to 21 games, while Westmoreland hit safely for the ninth straight game.

In the bullpen, Justus Agosto earned the win, with Tyler Rice finishing the game strong.

After a week off, the Lions are set to face Bellarmine in Louisville on March 27, offering them a chance to build on their recent successes.
