Google said it is deepening its commitment to Virginia with new community investments aimed at supporting local jobs, workforce training and energy affordability. The company said it has had a presence in the state for more than a decade, with an office in Reston and data centers in Loudoun and Prince William Counties.
To help prepare Virginians for skilled jobs tied to infrastructure growth, Google is funding the electrical training ALLIANCE (etA) to support local electrical apprenticeship training facilities. The funding is intended to increase training capacity for an additional 2,741 apprentices by 2030.
The move builds on Google’s existing local support and is part of a national commitment from Google.org to prepare over 300,000 skilled tradespeople.
Google also said it has invested in over 500 megawatts of new energy capacity in Virginia while building data centers in the state. It said this work has been done in collaboration with partners to bring more power to the grid.
In addition, the company is launching a $15 million Energy Impact Fund to support energy affordability at the local level. Google said the fund will help lower monthly utility bills for Virginians by supporting community projects such as home repairs, weatherization and energy-efficiency upgrades.
