Penn State University’s Campus Recreation Honored with National Award for Innovative Physical Activity Challenge!

Penn State Campus Recreation has achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the 2025 Largest Physical Activity Challenge from the Healthier Campus Initiative. This recognition was awarded at the 2026 NIRSA + IDEA World Annual Conference in Maryland.

The “Choose to Move” program, part of Healthy Campus Week in September 2025, attracted an impressive 9,007 participants from the University Park campus. This event not only showcased Penn State’s commitment to student wellness but also highlighted the importance of physical activity in a balanced lifestyle.

To reach its diverse student body, Campus Recreation organized activities at multiple locations and offered a variety of options, including group fitness classes and other recreational events. By doing so, they provided accessible ways for students to get moving and engage with their peers.

The success of “Choose to Move” aligns with the growing trend of prioritizing student wellness on campuses. According to recent studies, nearly 70% of college students report wanting more opportunities for physical activity. This initiative at Penn State mirrors a wider movement among universities to foster a healthier environment.

Emphasizing community, Penn State’s Student Affairs supports the holistic success of students, offering numerous programs to help them thrive academically and socially. They focus on inclusivity, ensuring that all students can participate regardless of their background.
