Penticton Vees’ Journey Concludes: Brooks Bandits Triumph in BCHL Showdown

The Penticton Vees’ long history in the BCHL has come to a close. After 64 seasons, they were eliminated in Game 6 of the Interior Conference finals, losing to the Brooks Bandits 3-1 on May 12.

In a tense match, Jack Good scored early in the third period to break a 1-1 tie, while goaltender Zach Zahara denied 24 shots from the Vees. Brooks won the best-of-seven series 4-2 and moved on to the Fred Page Cup finals.

The Vees managed to tie the game thanks to a goal by Caton Ryan just 13 seconds into the second period. Despite a solid performance by goalie Ethan Buenaventura—who stopped 33 shots—it wasn’t enough to push the Vees into a decisive Game 7. This game marked their last in the BCHL as they get ready to join the Western Hockey League in the 2025-26 season.

Brooks’ Keith McInnis and Parker Lalonde also contributed goals, with Lalonde adding an empty-netter at the end, sealing the game for his team. For Brooks, this was a historic win; it’s their first trip to the BCHL championship series since joining the league this season.

The Vees started their journey back in 1961. Over the years, they’ve collected 13 championships and have been known by various names, including Knights, Panthers, and Broncos. When they transition to the WHL, they’ll keep the Vees name alive.
