The Philadelphia Flyers have just signed forward Porter Martone to a three-year entry-level contract. General Manager Daniel Briere announced the news today. Martone will join the team for the rest of the 2025-26 season.
Martone, who is 19 (born October 26, 2006), was picked sixth overall by the Flyers in the 2025 NHL Draft. He is the first player from that draft class to secure an entry-level deal. He is also the fifth prospect to sign with the Flyers recently, following Noah Powell, Cole Knuble, Alex Ciernik, and Riley Thompson.
This past season, Martone played for Michigan State University, where he excelled. He racked up 50 points (25 goals and 25 assists) in 35 games. His impressive performance included three points (one goal and two assists) in two games during the 2026 NCAA Tournament, where he led his team in both goals and overall points as a freshman. Notably, he ranked third among all NCAA players with 24 goals prior to the tournament and boasted a 1.42 points-per-game average.
His talent didn’t go unnoticed; he was the only freshman chosen for the All-Big Ten First Team. He also made the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
Before heading to college, the 6-foot-3, 208-pound forward enjoyed a successful three-season stint in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Brampton Steelheads and Sarnia Sting. In his last OHL season (2024-25) as captain of the Steelheads, Martone topped his team in assists (61) and points (98), which stood as a personal best and placed him seventh in the league that year.
Hailing from Peterborough, Ontario, Martone has represented Canada multiple times at international competitions. He played in two World Junior Championships (2025 and 2026), a World Championship (2025), and several other tournaments. Notably, he captained Canada in the 2026 World Junior Championship, scoring six goals and helping the team secure a Bronze Medal.
His achievements in youth hockey are impressive: he led Canada to a Gold Medal at the World Under-18 Championship in 2024 with 17 points (5 goals, 12 assists) over seven games, making him one of the standout players of the tournament. In fact, he broke Connor Bedard’s record for most career points by a Canadian in the Under-18 Championships with 23 points (8 goals, 15 assists) across two tournaments from 2023 to 2024.
As the Flyers gear up to face the Dallas Stars tonight at Xfinity Mobile Arena, fans are eager to see how Martone will contribute to the team. This game starts at 7:00 p.m., and you can catch it on NBCSP or hear it on 97.5 The Fanatic.
