Pittsburg State University Gorillas Dominate Hornets: A Thrilling No. 7 Victory!

EMPORIA, Kan. – The Pittsburg State University softball team secured their 31st and 32nd wins of the season with a doubleheader sweep against Emporia State on Friday. They won the first game 5-3 and followed it up with a 9-2 victory in the second.

In the opening game, Pittsburg took an early lead, scoring twice in the first inning. After Emporia State answered back with a two-run home run, the Gorillas extended their lead in the sixth with another run. A solo homer by Lexi Davis in the seventh sealed the 5-3 win. Davis led the Gorillas with three hits and two RBIs, while Heather Arnett also shined with two runs scored. Emma Crabb earned the win with 5.2 innings pitched, striking out three.

The second game started slowly, with Pittsburg getting on the scoreboard via sacrifice flies in the third and fourth innings. They capitalized on two errors in the fifth, scoring three runs. Despite Emporia’s two-run triple in the same inning, the Gorillas pulled away with four more runs in the sixth, finishing at 9-2. Lexi Davis and Sailor Hall both contributed two RBIs, while Rachael Schlotter stood out with three hits. Lexi Franklin pitched a complete game for the win.

Looking ahead, Pittsburg State faces Washburn University on Saturday in another doubleheader, with the first game starting at 1 PM CDT.
