It’s been a long six years since “Hollow Knight: Silksong” was announced, and anticipation among fans is through the roof. Team Cherry finally eased some of that pressure last month by revealing a launch window for 2025, but we’re still waiting for a specific release date. Exciting news is on the horizon, though: Silksong will be playable at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) starting this September.
This presentation is part of ACMI’s Game Worlds exhibition, running from September 18, 2025, to February 8, 2026. The exhibition will showcase 30 iconic video games, including classics like The Sims and World of Warcraft. Silksong is featured not just for its massive anticipation but also to celebrate its roots, as Team Cherry operates out of Adelaide.
“Since its announcement, Silksong has become one of the most awaited indie games globally,” said Game Worlds co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell. “We’re excited to highlight this South Australian masterpiece this September.”
The exhibit will dive deep into the game’s design details, showcasing everything from Hornet’s intricate animations to the strategy behind its challenging boss fights. “We’re grateful to Team Cherry for allowing us to share their vision,” Johnson and Maxwell added.
While it’s tempting to predict a more precise release window based on this news, it’s hard to say definitively. ACMI hasn’t indicated whether Silksong is making its first appearance at the exhibition, so it could be out before then. What we do know for sure is that Silksong is coming to Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC later this year, with Xbox and PlayStation releases to follow.
In recent gaming trends, indie games like Silksong have gained immense popularity. According to a 2023 report from the Entertainment Software Association, 63% of gamers now prefer indie titles for their unique storytelling and innovative gameplay. This shift reflects not just a craving for fresh experiences but also a growing appreciation for smaller development teams that prioritize creativity over commercial pressures. Fans are eagerly awaiting what Team Cherry has crafted, adding to the richness of indie gaming culture.
