Poland Pushes Back Against Trump’s Claim: Russia’s Drone Raid Was No Mistake

Warsaw — Poland’s top leaders quickly rejected President Trump’s notion that recent Russian drone activity in Polish airspace might have been an innocent error. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated, “We wish it was a mistake. But we know it wasn’t.”

Polish officials reported recovering parts of 17 Russian-made drones that entered the country but thankfully did not cause any injuries or damage. This marked a historical moment as it was the first time NATO fighter jets scrambled to intercept Russian incursions since the war in Ukraine began over three years ago.

Karol Nawrocki, Poland’s conservative president, described the drone situation as a test of NATO’s response. He tweeted, “This was an attempt to see how we would react.” This perspective aligns with sentiments echoed by other European nations.

In contrast, Trump commented, “It could have been a mistake,” when asked about the incident, and previously tweeted about the violation of Polish airspace. The White House didn’t clarify his remarks, which prompted strong reactions from Polish officials.

U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker affirmed the U.S. commitment to defending NATO allies, emphasizing, “We stand by our allies in the face of these airspace violations.”

Poland’s Deputy Minister of Defense, Cezary Tomczyk, firmly disagreed with Trump’s suggestion of an accidental incursion, labeling the event a deliberate attack. “This was no mistake,” he stated, reinforcing the seriousness of the situation.
