Portland State Faces Tough Loss Against Weber State
In OGDEN, Utah, Portland State faced a rough match against Weber State, losing 6-1 despite several close battles. The tournament took place at the Edman Tennis Courts.
Weber State (2-9, 1-1) took control early by winning the doubles point. At No. 2 doubles, Luca Prino and Luke Lu lost 6-3 to Toit Malan and William Zulch. Meanwhile, Ignacio Ruiz and Aarjun Pandit fell 6-3 to Theo Mottier and Clement Lecoq at No. 3 doubles.
The singles matches didn’t bring much luck for the Vikings either. Prino started strong at No. 3, winning the first set 6-2 against Dawid Scholtz. However, Scholtz turned the tide, winning the next two sets 6-0 and 6-4. At No. 4, Edoardo Cravanzola fought hard against Malan, splitting the first two sets but ultimately lost in a super tiebreak, 15-13.
Hampus Hagglund also gave it his all at No. 6. After winning the first set 6-4, he couldn’t hold on, losing 6-1 and 6-3 to Zulch.
The Vikings did manage to secure one point when Ignacio Ruiz claimed victory at No. 5. He won a tightly contested match against Lecoq with scores of 7-6, 4-6, and 6-3.
In other singles matches, Aarjun Pandit lost to Ken Dinh 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1, and Maas Schotanus was edged out by Theo Mottier in straight sets at No. 2.
Looking forward, the Vikings will have another chance to compete against Utah State on March 24 at 10:00 AM PT.
