Provident Bank and The Provident Bank Foundation (PBF) have teamed up to launch a Crisis Response Fund aimed at fighting food insecurity in their communities. They are investing $50,000 to help local nonprofits that provide critical food access programs.
This initiative will grant $10,000 to five organizations working hard to meet the rising demand for meals and groceries, especially after the recent government shutdown affected food benefits for many families.
“We want to respond quickly and compassionately to communities in need,” said Tony Labozzetta, president and CEO of Provident Bank. “As we approach the holiday season, it’s crucial that we support our nonprofit partners who are on the front lines.”
The funded organizations include:
- The Salvation Army Greater New York Division, which provides over 91,000 meals each year in Queens.
- Franklin Food Bank in Somerset County, helping 36,000 individuals with food and health services annually.
- Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Greater Monmouth County, serving 1,200 people weekly with fresh groceries in Asbury Park.
- Jewish Family Service of the Lehigh Valley, providing food and personal hygiene items to over 1,000 individuals.
- Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation, delivering daily meals to over 400 low-income seniors.
The demand for food assistance is higher than ever. “We’re witnessing a growing crisis,” said Samantha Plotino, executive director of PBF. “We need to support local organizations that respond with urgency and creativity.”
According to recent statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 10.5% of American households faced food insecurity in 2021. This number is expected to rise as economic pressures continue. Local nonprofits play a vital role in addressing these needs, often relying on community support to provide essential services.
With initiatives like the Crisis Response Fund, Provident Bank and PBF are not just providing funding; they’re fostering a network of support for those who need it most.
